Astrology, Horoscopes, and the Occult
"When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and
mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead
on behalf of the living?" ( Isaiah 8:19).
"Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries,
which you have laboured at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed,
perhaps you will cause terror. All the counsel you have received has
only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers
who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is
coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them
up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here
are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by" (Isaiah
47:12-14).
Direction for Life
"I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart
instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my
right hand, I will not be shaken" (Psalm 16:7,8 ).
"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a
voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it'" (Isaiah 30:21).
He will teach the ways that are right and best to those who humbly turn
to him. And when we obey him, every path he guides us on is fragrant
with his loving kindness and his truth.
"He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the
ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands
of his covenant" (Psalm 25:9,10).
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it
says ... But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives
freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but
doing it --he will be blessed in what he does" (James 1:22 and 25).
Money Management
"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in
Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19).
"Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is
never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless" (Ecclesiastes
5:10).
"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing
into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food
and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich
fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful
desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money
is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have
wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs" (1
Timothy 6:6-10).
Trust
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your
paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5,6).
"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,
whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can
do everything through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:12,13).
