Press Release Detail

IBS Scripture Helps Ground New Believers in Their Faith

29.01.2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado--International Bible Society (IBS) announces the release of Coming Home: Finding Your Place in the Drama of the Bible, a special New Testament to help new Christians better understand the Bible and the life-transforming decision they have made. The New Testament is also an excellent tool for anyone who wants to learn more about Christianity.

In addition to the New International Version (NIV) New Testament text, Coming Home includes study notes that present God's story as a five-part drama. The drama provides Old Testament background information as well as New Testament concepts by highlighting creation, the fall of man, the history of the nation of Israel, Jesus, and Christianity today.

"For too long we have viewed the Bible as something other than a story," said Glenn Paauw, IBS Director of Product Development. "To be true to the Bible, we must help people read it and incorporate it into their lives as the great story of God coming to save us. This is what the Coming Home New Testament does."

Study sections entitled "Knowing the Key Elements of the Story" and "Knowing How to Live in the Story" provide both theological and practical backgrounds to the Christian life. They address elements such as faith, forgiveness, prayer, humanity and relationships. Designed to be interactive, each section has Scripture references and a space for readers to journal about what they are reading and to summarize what they are learning.

"The Coming Home New Testament is unique in the way it presents the Bible. Although Coming Home is intended to help new followers of Jesus understand the story of the Bible, working on the project helped clarify the story for me, even though I've been following Jesus for 15 years. This book will have a powerful impact!" shared John Dunham, IBS Associate Editor for U.S. Publishing.

Other features of the New Testament include a section entitled "Finding Your Place in the Story," a timeline of Bible history, a dictionary/concordance and a four-month New Testament reading plan.

International Bible Society, founded in 1809, faithfully translates, publishes and reaches out with God's Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body.
