IBS Teams with Local Christian Leaders and Churches to Give the Gift of Scripture

15.12.2004

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado—International Bible Society (IBS) and more than 125 local Christian leaders and churches are teaming up to provide the gift of Scripture to thousands of individuals and families in Colorado Springs and the surrounding area.

On Sunday, December 19, Our City, God’s Word, a customized New Testament, will arrive at approximately 100,000 Colorado Springs homes in the wrappers of their local newspaper, The Gazette. This may be the largest Christian outreach in the area in decades.

The distinctive New Testament features local scenes familiar to residents, information about the city, photos of local sites from yesterday and today, and
testimonies of Colorado Springs residents.

The text also includes informative notes for people unfamiliar with Scripture, while the newspaper wrapper features spiritual encouragement and a website address to help recipients connect with local churches.

“The IBS approach seems to me to be such a healthy thing,” said Dr. Michael Sayler, pastor of First Baptist Church of Colorado Springs. “The people who are
distributing the Word of God care enough about the people of the community to personalize it.”

According to IBS President Peter Bradley, IBS has a track record of success using hobbies, issues, and life stages as bridges to connect people to the Bible. Our City, God’s Word represents the latest in a long line of specialty Scripture materials produced by IBS for use by churches and ministry organizations.

“Our City, God’s Word is a fantastic outreach tool,” Bradley said. “By using the people, sights, and flavor of Colorado Springs, we believe many will not only discover but engage the New Testament. It’s also great to see the Christian community working together to make the Scripture outreaches possible.”

IBS has a long history of saturating areas with distributions of the Word of God. During the middle of the 20th century, the ministry presented every residence in New York City a Bible on three separate occasions. Earlier this year, local newspaper subscribers and other residents in two major U.S. cities—Jackson, Mississippi, and Houston, Texas—received specialized IBS Gospels of Luke.

Founded in 1809, International Bible Society faithfully translates and reaches out with God’s Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body. For more information, please view www.ColoradoSpringsBible.org.
