COLORADO SPRINGS –—In a ceremony today at Compassion International, the presidents of International Bible Society (IBS) and Compassion signed a joint ministry agreement. The signing was witnessed by more than 400 local staff members of the two global ministries.
The agreement, signed by Peter Bradley, IBS president, and Wess Stafford, Compassion president/CEO, recognizes the mutual opportunity to enhance specific aspects of each ministry, resulting in increased effectiveness in bringing God’s Word to children around the world.
Because this agreement is not exclusive, IBS and Compassion will continue to come alongside other ministries with a shared vision to fulfill the Great Commission. “We believe this alliance and our other strategic relationships strengthen our ability to release children from poverty,” stated Stafford. “IBS plays an incredible role in putting Bibles into the hands of these children and their families.”
Bradley stressed the importance of having an understanding of the strength of the Body of Christ as it functions and ministers globally. “This successful relationship is beneficial both to the organizations and more basically to the Kingdom of God,” he said. “Through closer cooperation, we can complement the work of each other while we also strengthen our own ministry.”
Founded in 1952, Compassion is celebrating its fiftieth year in ministry. Dedicated to the long-term holistic development of children living in poverty, Compassion works with more than 65 different denominations and scores of indigenous churches in more than 2,200 church-based projects. Recognized as one of the nation’s top 100 not-for profits, Compassion is reaching out to more than 400,000 children in 22 countries, including the United States.
Founded in 1809, IBS faithfully translates, publishes and reaches out with God’s Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body.
