COLORADO SPRINGS, CO—With the Hayman fire raging approximately 20 miles from its headquarters in Colorado Springs, International Bible Society (IBS) delivered disaster-related Scripture materials on June 21 to The Salvation Army for distribution to fire victims, firefighters and disaster workers.
Drawing on its Emergency Scripture Fund, IBS granted 3,430 special Scripture-based booklets to The Salvation Army, who distributed them in several wildfire-ravaged areas of Colorado, including the Hayman fire area west of Colorado Springs and the Glenwood Springs and Durango areas.
“The International Bible Society’s support is helping us achieve our goal of providing for the practical needs of those impacted by the Colorado fires and ministering to them spiritually,” said Lt. Colonel Harold Brodin, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. “Their generosity has been invaluable to us, to those whose homes have been lost or threatened, and to the men and women fighting the fires.”
The Scripture materials, which IBS developed to minister to disaster victims the comfort and hope found in God’s Word, included When Your Whole World Changes (in English and Spanish for adults), Deeper Still (for those who grieve) and Where’s God Now? (for youth). The booklets address from a biblical perspective the questions people have in the aftermath of disasters—questions like “How could this happen to me?” and “How long will this misery last?” IBS has provided these and other specialized Scriptures to churches and ministries to use in crisis outreaches all over the world, most recently in New York and Washington, D.C. following the September 11th tragedy.
International Bible Society, founded in 1809, continues to faithfully translate, publish and reach out with God’s Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body.
