IBS Staff Gear Up for Disaster Preparedness

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado--International Bible Society's (IBS) S.O.S. (Scripture Outreach Servants) team will take part in an annual Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster-preparedness exercise on September 7 and 8 at Fort Carson U.S. Army Base in Colorado Springs.

The S.O.S. team will staff a Salvation Army canteen to serve 30-45 Colorado firefighters participating in simulated disaster and team-building exercises. In addition to serving water, snacks, and four meals, IBS volunteers will offer copies of Answering the Call, a specially designed New Testament for firefighters.

Maj. Joe Hoogstad, El Paso County Coordinator for The Salvation Army, said, "This is a good example of how community organizations can work together and be prepared for any challenge that may come to the residents of El Paso County."

The S.O.S. team is a group of IBS staff trained to collaborate with The Salvation Army and other disaster response agencies to provide spiritual and physical aid to people in crisis situations in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana.
