IBS, The Salvation Army Encourage Canadian Wildfire Workers

23.09.2003

BURLINGTON, Ontario—International Bible Society (IBS) recently shipped 3,000 copies of Answering the Call, a specially designed New Testament for firefighters, to Abbotsford, British Colombia, to encourage workers battling forest fires in the area.

Approximately 3,000 firefighters are currently combating 850 fires in British Colombia. More than 2,000 fires have plagued the province since April.

IBS’ Answering the Call New Testaments will be distributed to firefighters and disaster workers by staff and volunteers of The Salvation Army manning Emergency Response Units and Disaster Relief Units in the province.

Sues Hyde, IBS Director of Outreach, said, “I am confident The Salvation Army will give these New Testaments to people who need them. This is Canada's worst fire season ever; many firefighters are stretched to their limits. God's Word can bring them peace and strength.”

Deborah Thomson of IBS-Canada said, “IBS-Canada is proud to support relief efforts in a joint venture with The Salvation Army during this time of crisis. Working with others is key to distributing the gospel message of hope and comfort to those who need it. Our prayers go out to the families who have been affected by these terrible fires.”

Individuals in the United States wishing to donate to IBS’ ongoing Emergency Scripture Fund may do so by calling toll-free 1-800-987-3595. Canadian residents may donate by calling 1-800-530-0223, or by visiting www.ibscanada.com.

International Bible Society, founded in 1809, faithfully translates, publishes and reaches out with God’s Word so that people around the world may become disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body. You can learn more about IBS at www.ibs.org and at www.ibscanada.com.

The Salvation Army is a Christian Church founded by William and Catherine Booth in London in 1865. The mission of the Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name.
